The clumsy thinking of a human and the fixed thinking of an AI, chained together by a differential equation into a brain made of a single line of thought.

“t_okugawa” is the name I use online. I gave my first work that name as it is.

Every blue point on the page belongs to one chain of thought. Each point finds its next position step by step, following a differential equation: the next step is born from the current one.

Two forces decide the direction. One is human thought: a clumsy current that swirls, takes detours and now and then stumbles. The other is the thought of an AI: a fixed current that follows the slope of the landscape as it stands and runs straight down to the nearest answer.

The points think in bundles. Where the AI’s pull wins, the bundle narrows and converges; where the human’s wins, it spreads out and hesitates. When it reaches an answer, that answer grows shallower, and the thought moves on to a place it has not yet been. Because the landscape keeps changing, the answers the AI reaches change too. The landscape has 25 hollows: the number of islands in Kamijima, the town in the Seto Inland Sea where I grew up.

Near the outline of the brain, thought is pushed back inward, so the outline was drawn by the thinking itself. Neither the human nor the AI alone would have made this shape. That I designed it in long conversations with an AI is part of the work too.

Details

Detail: the frontal lobe. Bundles of points spread out and, here and there, knot tightly.
Detail: the middle of the brain. Thin bands of points meander like the folds of a cortex.
